Art Print Options

Want to collect art, but don't know where to start?

Perhaps you have heard of art terms like paper prints, giclee, floater frames and think to yourself that Game of Thrones trivia might be easier to figure out. Well, you are not alone!

When I first started my journey of offering art prints, these terms were not only intimidating, but it took a year for me to feel confident enough to open my print shop. I went to different parts of town, worked with various print shops and learned everything I could until I found the best printer who could reproduce my paintings without losing the integrity of the original artwork.

In this blog post, I will discuss 4 different types of art print options:

  • Canvas Prints

  • Framed Canvas Prints

  • Embellished Prints

  • Paper Prints

By explaining the differences between these printing methods I hope it helps you make the best decision for your art collecting journey.

Let's get started

Paper Prints

A paper print is a scanned image of original artwork which is then printed on premium grade paper. Unlike the printer you may have at home, giclee prints use premium pigment-based inks and thick high-quality paper. By using high-quality art printers, the art print encapsulates each brushstroke and color detail. You can scale these prints while maintaining the integrity of the original work. Your art print will be printed with a white border and include an additional cardboard-like frame on top, called a mat, which adds a modern and upscale touch.

Framed Paper Prints

Framed paper prints arrive installed in a frame and ready to hang. The art print in the frame will come with a mat. A mat is a cardboard-like material that sits between the frame and the art print to give it a complete and modern aesthetic. Framed prints are a popular choice as they can easily be matched with other framed prints to create the trending black frame collage wall.

Canvas Prints

A canvas print is a painting that is scanned, printed onto canvas material and then professionally stretched around the sides of a wooden frame, making the print ready to hang. One of the biggest differences between ordering a canvas print and paper print is the material that is printed on. Paper prints are typically printed on giclee paper, which is a fancy term for thick high-quality paper. Whereas canvas paper replicates the material of actual canvases that artists paint on. It is more textured and bendable. What’s more, these prints are fade-resistant, ensuring that your print will last for years to come.

Framed Canvas Prints

Framing your canvas print takes your art to the next level. Not only is the canvas print stretched around the sides of a wood frame making it a few inches deep, but it is then professionally installed inside a modern floater frame. The frame is all wood and custom made for each order. By using high-quality materials and expert craftsmanship, you can be sure that these beautiful pieces will stand the test of time and look as stunning as ever for many years.

Embellished Prints

Embellished prints are a great option for someone who wants to collect a unique piece of artwork without investing into an original painting. The artist will take your print and add their personal touch. This can entail the artist painting directly on the print, adding gold or silver leaf paper, etc. Embellishing makes a reproduced print one of a kind. It is one of the best ways to own original artwork without breaking the bank. You won't be disappointed.
